You may have heard me mention this term and been curious about what the heck it is 🤔
Chances are you have already experienced the power of body doubling!
It is a concept coined by ADD coach Linda Anderson that centers around productivity and accountability. The premise entails strategically having others in proximity to enhance focus and ability to accomplish mundane tasks.
Our lives are full of constant distractions. Body doubling is a way to take back your time, block out space for your goals and projects, and get them done so you can keep moving forward.
When I discussed this with my coach a few years ago, she wasn’t surprised that body doubling was working so well for me as she said I was an Obliger. According to Gretchen Rubin, those with obliger tendencies meet outer expectations, but struggle to meet inner expectations. They’re motivated by external accountability.
Body double collective sessions allow us to body double for one another around a virtual Zoom table, essentially coworking. We share our intention for the time together at the beginning of the hour, then work on our task(s) silently and independently. We take a few minutes at the end to briefly check in on how things went.
